Well…it’s almost fall. Like, we’ve got maybe two more weeks. Perhaps I’m jumping the gun a bit with decorating early, but I do that reeeeeally well.
Just sharing a few things I’ve done around here to make our space feel a bit more festive.
In a sauce pan, add the following ingredients, cover with water, and then simmer:
- Sliced oranges
- Cinnamon sticks
- Whole cloves
- Nutmeg
It makes the entire house smell amazing.
I’ve taken the past few months to focus on minimalizing and decluttering meanwhile trying to maintain a clean and peaceful environment for my family. Plus I have a really hard time relaxing when there is stuff everywhere. (Did I mention I have 5 kids?)
Note: if you are raising hoarders, just sneak a couple things out while they’re at school on Trash Day Eve. They’ll never notice the random-ziplock-of-crap that disappeared. I digress.
I went to pick up a few things at Walmart (no shame) and found some white foam pumpkins. I’m pretty picky when it comes to faux pumpkins, flowers, etc. and these passed my “realistic enough” test. I decided to mix them in with some larger real ones to facade their fraudulence, and they were less than $6 each! While I was perusing other aisles, this cute lantern and a couple galvanized buckets jumped into my cart. Oops!
Next I headed to Whole Foods but accidentally found myself in Marshall’s around the corner…I snagged a yummy candle and a few other things to spruce up the fireplace hearth. I finally have a hearth!!!
I gathered some small logs from the wood pile outside as a filler. Going for a more earthy look this year.
I really do like to keep it simple with my autumn decor. Just a few things to set the mood of the season.
Now we wait. We wait for the aspen grove lining our driveway to do it’s thing with the leaves. We wait for the weather to drop below 77°. We wait for our first Colorado fall, y’all!
